7,000 People Already Submitted Application for 2017 Ford GT

Were you looking forward to choosing your new 2017 Ford GT from among the line of Ford GTs arriving at your local Ford dealer? If so, there’s bad news, as Ford has already revealed that it will be hand-picking owners for the first batch; if you want one of the 250 Ford GTs slated to be produced in 2017, you have to send an in-depth application to Ford. There’s even more bad news, though, as Ford says thousands of applications to buy the car have been submitted this week alone.

Just a week after order books officially opened, 7,000 people have already filled out the lengthy and in-depth application to buy the nearly-half-a-million-dollar supercar. The application included questions on the buyer’s corporate and personal background, what cars they own, how many and which Ford vehicles they own, their preferred dealer, charitable activities, and social media presence. The application also gives a chance to make a public plea in the form of a video, image, or text post. The application does not guarantee buyers will get a Ford GT, however, and only gets you a chance to be thoroughly reviewed by Ford. The application process is open until May 12th for U.S. residents.

Ford claims that 180,000 fans in the U.S. alone visited the Ford GT website center since order books opened, where 100,000 of those U.S. visitors utilized the Ford GT configurator. This online tool allowed users to create their ideal Ford GT with varying shades of paint, stripes, wheel, carbon fiber trim, and interior themes. According to Ford, the most popular color so far is Liquid Blue, the same hue the GT debuted with in 2015 and seen at top, with Matte Black in second place.
