Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is defending his government’s choice to make sure that it provides a much higher than promised $29.4-billion deficit in the coming fiscal year, in addition to that the funding plan for First Nations.

The bigger deficit is the result of an increasingly slumping economy, Trudeau said. However the Canadian nominal GDP is $1.573 Trillion with a $43,935 per capita. The deficit will be increasingly large for the country’s economy in regards to the money that will be used to fund.

Trudeau says that he promises about $10 billion in new investment and that they are bringing forward about $11 billion of new investment which he told that to Robyn Bresnahan, host of CBC Radio’s Ottawa Morning, on Wednesday.

The Liberals are looking to invest versus cutting in order to grow the country’s economy in every way possible to prepare for the country’s future. Trudeau made a promise that was to invest in the future of the country. That’s what Canadians told him the Canadian people needed and that he was going to do it responsibly and that’s exactly what they want to do.

Trudeau said that they were being absolutely open and transparent with Canadians the way they  promised to be, not to try and force to country back to budget balance to keep election promise, but to respond to what the economy actually needs.

As per The First Nations Funding it was asked to quickly respond to concerns the budget doesn’t do enough in the short term to address funding inequities for First Nations, and in response to that Trudeau says that relationships have to be rebuilt to allow First Nations to be leaders on the issue.

Approximately $8.4 billion in funding for First Nations is earmarked for the coming five years worth of spending. According to the president of the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society, Cindy Blackstock says that puts the funding at risk and does not address the distance of fairness faced by kids on reserve.

She stated that she thinks people need to look closely at what they’re actually spending and when, she said. She said that the biggest investments on the First Nations file are after the next election.

Trudeau said Wednesday it will take more than money to address inequities properly.

“The fact is, we’re on a path right now to do this responsibly and realistically. Because as we understand, the challenge isn’t only a question of money. The question is around governance, around building the right partnerships so First Nations can lead on First Nations education. That was where Mr. Harper had failed a few years ago.

“We have to make sure that it’s done right, and that means building a proper partnership with indigenous communities that haven’t led on this. They’ve been told by the government that this is the money you have, this is how you’re going to spend it,” he said.

“We need to renew that relationship in a respectful way, and that’s why we’re getting to work with people … properly.”

Tony Abbott’s threat to “shirtfront” Vladimir Putin has been labelled as “immature” by a Russian embassy official, who pointed out while Abbott may be a fit cyclist, the Russian president was a judo champion.

Embassy second secretary Alexander Odoevskiy also told Guardian Australia that the west, including Australia, had lost interest in the investigation into the crash of MH17, with Abbott preferring instead to play politics and conduct “megaphone statements and muscle flexing”. He also accused Bill Shorten of “unfriendly language”.

After reading Peter FitzSimons’ articles on brain damage to athletes such as footballers and boxers who have had head contacts, I have  been wondering if our old boxing champ Mr Abbott should have a brain check. There is evidence from many of his pronouncements that he may have damage in this area.

But Peskov also said Putin had yet to confirm his visit to Australia in November even though last week Joe Hockey confirmed Putin would be coming.

“Russia is a part of G20 and the Russian president is free to visit the summit in Australia,” Peskov said.

“His visit isn’t going to be a bilateral visit upon the invitation from the Australian side.

“As soon as Mr Putin confirms his visit we’ll make a relevant statement. The Russian government does not intend to respond to Mr Abbott’s colourful language.

The Conservatives have described their plans to stop British laws being overruled by human rights judgements from Strasbourg as “viable and legal”.

Justice Secretary Chris Grayling said if the Tories won the 2015 election, a new Bill of Rights would give UK courts and Parliament the “final say”.

There should be no “legal blank cheque to take human rights into areas where they have never applied”, he added.

But former Attorney General Dominic Grieve said the plans were flawed.

The Tory MP said they would be “difficult to implement” and risked “undermining” the UK’s – and his own party’s – tradition of upholding human rights.

Labour and the Lib Dems have said the proposals are politically motivated while the UK Independence Party claimed they were “worthless”.

The Conservatives have pledged for a decade to scrap the 1998 Human Rights Act, introduced under the Labour government, which incorporates the European Convention on Human Rights into British law.

Fueled by atrocity and a blitzkrieg of gains in Iraq and Syria, the Islamic State has enjoyed a meteoric climb to notoriety. The beheading of journalist Steven Sotloff is the latest, savage step on that climb. Confronted with images of his murder, a war-weary America is once again asked to consider a major military operation. Despite President Obama’s no boots on the ground assurances, we are now left to wonder if this will all end in a Clintonian game of semantics. Define boots.

Having fought against the Islamic State’s precursor, Al-Qaeda in Iraq, as a Marine, I feel deeply conflicted about its gains. Our strategic blunder in Iraq is a visceral, raw and personal memory for me, one I hope we don’t repeat. Living in the Middle East and watching the Syrian Civil War up close, its savagery and the idea of its continuation draws a similar raw and visceral reaction. Unable to make sense of the right course, and skeptical of anyone offering assured solutions, I often dip into my memories of the last decade, retracing my steps, looking for clarity like some lost set of keys.

France’s economy minister says he and two colleagues are leaving their posts amid a bitter row over economic policy.

Arnaud Montebourg had publicly urged President Hollande’s government to end austerity policies and focus on growth.

He was backed by Education Minister Benoit Hamon and Culture Minister Aurelie Filippetti.

Prime Minister Manuel Valls accused Mr Montebourg of crossing “a yellow line” and announced the resignation of his entire cabinet.

The move had apparently been agreed with President Francois Hollande, who immediately asked him to form a new government on Tuesday “consistent with the direction” he had set for the country.

France is struggling with high unemployment and low growth and President Francois Hollande’s popularity is the lowest for a president in more than 50 years.

The federal government is spending nearly $1 million to create an online database that will track “misinformation” and hate speech on Twitter.

The National Science Foundation is financing the creation of a web service that will monitor “suspicious memes” and what it considers “false and misleading ideas,” with a major focus on political activity online.

The “Truthy” database, created by researchers at Indiana University, is designed to “detect political smears, astroturfing, misinformation, and other social pollution.”

The university has received $919,917 so far for the project.

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security have sent out a bulletin to law enforcement officials warning that U.S. airstrikes in Iraq could provoke retaliation by Islamic State sympathizers in the U.S., Fox News has learned.

The warning on Friday comes shortly after U.S. intelligence officials said there is evidence foreign fighters have returned to their home countries and started Islamic State cells. While there is no evidence of a credible plot against the U.S. now, the latest bulletin warns that the lone wolf nature of the threat would make it difficult to thwart.

“It is difficult to predict triggers that will contribute to [homegrown violent extremists] attempting acts of violence,” the bulletin said. “[Lone wolf terrorists] present law enforcement with limited opportunities to detect and disrupt plots, which frequently involve simple plotting against targets of opportunity.”

Islamic State militants claimed last week that the execution of American journalist James Foley was in retaliation for U.S. airstrikes in Iraq.

The bulletin cited the Foley execution video and the posting, earlier this month, of an ISIS flag photo in front of the White House. This social media footprint, according to analysts, is designed to communicate that the Islamic State has a global reach, though intelligence officials emphasize that the majority of its followers are in Iraq and Syria.

Uber just collected a very rich fare.

Today the Wall Street Journal reported that the San Francisco-based car service company raised $1.2 billion from BlackRock, Fidelity Investments  and  Wellington Management (Google Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Menlo Ventures and Summit Partners pitched in, too). The new valuation? $18.2 billion.

At $18.2 billion Kalanick would need to own only 5.49% of Uber to hit a net worth of $1 billion.

Chances are he’s worth even more. Private company data provider VC Experts sent my colleague Ryan Maca copy of Uber’s Restated Certificate of Incorporation that the company filed in Delaware today. VC Expert’s Justin Byers crunched the numbers to reveal that common shares (stock usually held by the founders and maybe some angel investors) account for about 38% of Uber’s total share count—109 million common shares out of a total of 289 million. Kalanick told the Wall Street Journal that he never sold a share. As a cofounder and CEO it’s easy to imagine Kalanick owns at least 10% of Uber. That would put him close to the $2 billion mark–and earn him a spot on the Forbes 400 list of the richest Americans. In fact, once we learn more about Uber’s ownership structure—there’s a good chance that cofounder Garrett Camp (who has a smaller role—and public profile—than Kalanick) will earn his way into the billionaire club, too.
