Nissan revealed the Datsun GO-cross concept at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo in India. Although just a concept, the GO-cross is said to complement the brand’s existing models in India, which include the Datsun GO hatchback and the Datsun GO+ MPV.
The Datsun GO-cross concept is aimed at young, first-time buyers, according to the automaker.
“Although it is a pure show car at the moment, the Datsun GO-cross Concept is designed to meet the needs and preferences of a new generation of drivers. They are young, ambitious, fun-loving people ready to take the next stop in their lives,” Koji Nagano, Datsun executive design director, said in a release.
In addition to the Datsun GO-cross concept, the automaker is also showing the Datsun GO-Rally show car alongside a vintage Datsun Bluebird 1600 SSS (510) rally car that raced in the U.S. during the 1970s. Nissan is also showing “enhanced versions” of the Datsun GO and Datsun GO+ models featuring personalization accessories. Finally, the automaker is presenting a Datsun GO+ Smart MPV with two gaming consoles in the back.
Although the Datsun brand was replaced by Nissan in the U.S. during the 1980s, the Japanese automaker revived the name as a low-cost brand for emerging markets such as Indonesia, South Africa, India, and Russia.
