Google Fit now counts how many calories you burn every day

Google Fit, an app for Android users a central place to track your fitness and workout data, was officially released last fall. The app has always had support for Android Wear, but an update today makes it a bit more user-friendly for those in Google’s smartwatch ecosystem — there’s now a custom Android Wear watch face that displays the Google Fit activity ring showing how many minutes of activity you’ve done towards your daily goal. It appears you’re limited to just a single, analog-style watch face, though, so fans of digital watches will be out of luck here.

There are a few other notable updates to the app being released today, as well. The Google Fit app can now estimate the distance you’ve traveled and how many calories you’ve burned in a day — just enter your height, weight, and gender in your Google Fit profile and the app will make the calculations from there. It’s quite similar to how the Apple Watch counts your resting calories once you enter your vitals. You can also slap the Google Fit activity ring right on the homescreen of your phone with a new Android widget. The updated app is available now in the Google Play store
