Spied! Next-Gen Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 Testing at the ‘Ring

With the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 gearing up for production later this year, General Motors appears to be hard at work on the next-generation Camaro Z/28. We caught a prototype of what we believe to be the next Z/28 lapping the Nürburgring. While it’s sporting pretty heavy camouflage, we were able to pick out a few details.

Drawing inspiration from the recent ZL1, the prototype features a different front fascia with canards on the bumper, along with a massive rear wing that gives the appearance of a track-focused car. The wide wheels were also left uncovered, showing off an open-spoke five-star design and massive brakes.

After the track, the prototype took to the streets still sporting the heavy camo. While we can see some track-focused features and elements expected on a Z/28, we can’t see the hood vents, which would solidify in our minds that what we’re seeing is actually the new Z/28.

No information has been released on what will be found under the hood of the new Camaro Z/28, but rumors suggest a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V-8 is likely, leaving the supercharged LT4 6.2-liter solely to the ZL1. The last Z/28 featured a 7.0-liter LS7  V-8 pumping out 505 hp and 481 lb-ft of torque, so expect the new version to make more power.
