Rob Ford Funeral Details Revealed

Rob Ford’s body will lie in repose at Toronto’s City Hall for two days next week, allowing the public an opportunity to say their final goodbyes.

Ford’s office confirmed plans for his viewing and funeral Wednesday, a day after the city councillor succumbed to cancer at age 46.

The public will be able to pay their final respects starting March 28 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m, and March 29 between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m.

His funeral procession will begin at city hall the morning of March 30 to St. James Cathedral, where final services will be held.

The late politician will be buried in a private ceremony following the funeral. The public has been invited to join the Ford family for a celebration of life later that evening at Toronto Congress Centre.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking well-wishers to donate to the Ford-Panov research panel at Mount Sinai hospital, where Ford was treated for cancer.

“As difficult as it is to say goodbye, they would like to do so in the same manner in which he lived his life, by sharing it with the people,” read statement from Ford’s chief of staff Dan Jacobs.

Tributes for Ford have already been pouring in at city hall, where mourners have been lining up to sign a book of condolences and write messages on the pavement outside the building.

The City of Toronto also honoured the former mayor by lowering flags to half-mast. The colourful “Toronto” sign outside city hall, usually brightly lit, went dark Tuesday night in tribute.
