Wake up, Mr. Maniac. Wake up and smell the violence!

This Saturday morning (May 16, 2015) is one for the early risers as Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) hits Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines, for the first time ever with a bunch of fun mixed martial arts (MMA) match ups in tow.

In the main event, former Featherweight lord Urijah Faber takes on former Lightweight beltholder Frankie Edgar in a 145-pound match up of high-speed wrestlers.

Elsewhere on the FOX Sports 1-televised card, Gegard Mousasi and Costas Philippou — both coming off of nasty knockout victories — face off in the Middleweight co-main event, while Mark Munoz looks for one last win inside the Octagon against the 6’6″ Luke Barnatt.

I’m sure you’l be cranky after such an early start. Here’s how to make some money to cheer you up:

UFC Fight Night 66 Odds For The Under Card:

Jon Tuck (-155) vs. Tae Hyun Bang (+135)
Kajan Johnson (-135) vs. Lipeng Zhang (+115)
Dhiego Lima (-190) vs. Li Jingliang (+165)
Royston Wee (-115) vs. Ning Guangyou (-105)
Jon delos Reyes (-185) vs. Roldan Sangcha-an (+160)
Nolan Ticman (-230) vs. Zhikui Yao (+190)

Thoughts: This undercard contains one solid bet and one terrific bet: Bang and Ning, respectively.

Tuck is undoubtedly quite skilled, but lacks the wrestling and technical striking prowess to utilize his solid power and quality Brazilian jiu-jitsu. His two UFC victories came over subpar opposition in Tiequan Zhang and Jake Lindsey, while he was totally outclassed in his two losses. Bang figures to have the striking edge and packs plenty of power on his own in addition to solid counter-wrestling. Tuck will likely struggle to impose his grappling, instead being forced to trade on the feet and likely losing the decision there.

Therefore, a decent bet on Bang makes sense.

For a while, Ning was the underdog and I was grinning like the Cheshire Cat once the shrooms kicked in. Alas, it seems people caught on and he’s just above even odds. He’s still an excellent bargain, however. He has the physical ability and Greco-Roman prowess to shut down Wee’s one-note wrestling offense, plus the power to lay him out when he’s forced to trade.

Bank on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): China winner … you won’t regret it.

UFC Fight Night 66 Odds For The Main Card:

Frankie Edgar (-450) vs. Urijah Faber (+360)
Gegard Mousasi (-600) vs. Costas Philippou (+450)
Luke Barnatt (-165) vs. Mark Munoz (+145)
Neil Magny (-125) vs. Hyun Gyu Lim (+105)
Yui Chul Nam (-175) vs. Phillipe Nover (+155)
Levan Makashvili (-400) vs. Mark Eddiva (+310)

Thoughts: The one line that stands out to me here is Magny — I don’t believe his bout with Lim is the 50/50 toss up these odds suggest. Lim has the sort of power usually described in the obituaries of buffalo victims, but lacks finesse in his boxing and has the tendency to fade as the fight goes along due to being probably the biggest weight cutter at 170 pounds since Anthony Johnson skipped town.

Magny, meanwhile, will have the length advantage and has looked better and better in his striking from fight to fight. Though the possibility of getting starched in one hit is there, I believe he has the skills to pick Lim apart from the outside.

In other words, a moderate bet on Magny works.

UFC Fight Night 66 Best Bets:

  • Single bet — Tae Hyun Bang: Bet $40 to make $54
  • Single bet — Ning Guangyou: Bet $100 to make $95.23
  • Single bet — Neil Magny: Bet $50 to make $40

The main event is pretty awesome and — while the name value may not be terrific — there are several quality match ups to be enjoyed.

See you bright and early Saturday, Maniacs!
