Jeep Boss Confirms Hellcat-Powered Grand Cherokee on Video

Jeep’s upcoming monster, a Hellcat-powered Grand Cherokee, has been confirmed to hit the market before the end of 2017 by brand boss Mike Manley. In an interview with Vvuzz at the Detroit auto show, Manley was asked whether the Hellcat engine could fit under the hood of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The executive not only confirmed on video that it can, but also announced that the hot-rodded SUV will arrive before the end of 2017.

We reported before that FCA previewed a variety of new vehicles during its dealer show in Las Vegas last year. Along with the ultra-high-performance Grand Cherokee SRT variant, the automaker also showed the Jeep Grand Wagoneer and a new Barracuda, which are expected to hit the market in the near future.

Expect the hot-rodded Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT to wear the Track Hawk moniker once it debuts sometime before the end of next year. Under the hood will be the same 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 found in the Dodge Charger and Challenger Hellcat mated to a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission. Compared to the current Grand Cherokee SRT, the Track Hawk should be even more potent and be able to do the 0-60 mph sprint below the four-second mark. Once it hits the market, the Grand Cherokee Track Hawk’s competitive set will include cars like the BMW X5 M and X6 M, Mercedes-AMG GLE63, Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR, and Porsche Cayenne Turbo and Turbo S.
