During a private track day at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, one of the factory-owned McLaren P1 GTRs nearly crashed into a concrete barrier at the infamous corkscrew. The car was driven by a professional driver who was reportedly trying to set a lap time for owners to try to match or beat.

As the car comes through the corkscrew, it appears the driver is carrying too much speed. The car’s tail steps out, causing the car to spin out and come within inches of hitting a concrete barrier at the base of the turn. Luckily, the driver averts disaster and saves the $3 million car from harm.

Inspired by the F1 GTR, the McLaren P1 GTR is essentially a track-only variant of the P1 hypercar. The car was only made available for sale to existing owners of the conventional P1 and only 35 examples were made. Compared to the standard P1, the P1 GTR offers more power from its hybrid powertrain, with the twin-turbo V-8 and electric motor making a total system output of 986 hp, 83 hp more than the base model. The car also comes with racing slicks, a fixed rear wing, a new exhaust, and a fixed ride height on a race-prepped suspension.
