An all-new Opel GT concept is coming to the 2016 Geneva auto show in March. But before the official unveiling, the automaker teased the car in a new video.

In the video, Opel Group CEO Karl-Thomas Neumann walks down a long cold hallway. As the door at the end opens, Neumann announces, “Take a look at Opel with a fresh pair of eyes.” A red “GT” emblem appears, and the video ends by promising another teaser soon.

In a recent statement, Opel said, “The breathtaking and puristic sportscar expresses the continuous innovative strength and the new lifestyle of Opel.”

Discontinued in 2010, the last Opel GT was based on the Saturn Sky Redline convertible and was powered solely by the more powerful 260-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged and direct-injected Ecotec inline-four engine. That second-generation model was produced from 2007 to the 2010 model year.

Available from 1967 to 1973, the first-generation Opel GT was a rear-drive two-seat coupe powered by either a 67-hp 1.1-liter OHV inline-four or an optional 102-hp 1.9-liter CIH inline-four backed by a four-speed manual or three-speed automatic. Like the Chevrolet Corvette of the same era, styling for the Opel GT was heavily influenced by the 1965 Pontiac Banshee XP-833 concept.

Three years ago, Opel showed the Monza four-seat shooting brake concept (shown above) with an electric powertrain and a compressed natural gas range extender: a new 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo. Expect the new Opel GT concept to focus on performance.

With Buick and Opel sharing similar styling, we wonder if the new GT concept could be related to the stunning Buick Avista 2+2 coupe concept shown at the Detroit auto show this month. Of course, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Opel GT concept remains a small two-seat sports car.
