Report: Jaguar Won’t Offer a Wagon Again Anytime Soon

It’s looking unlikely that Jaguar will build wagon variants of its current models in Europe due to a lack of demand for the body style, according to a recent report.

“The [wagon] market is massively shrinking. I’m very sad about it but it’s a very difficult market to justify,” Jaguar’s design chief Ian Callum told Automotive News Europe.

Wagons have a cult following here in the U.S., and are typically much more popular in Europe. But Callum claims Jaguar’s home market of the U.K. isn’t particularly excited about wagons compared to other mainland European nations.

“The world’s biggest wagon market is Germany. And what do Germans buy? They buy German cars,” Callum opined. Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz all offer wagon versions of their sedans across the pond.

Jaguar has brought out two wagon variants of its sedans in the past. These include a wagon version of the X-Type and a wagon variant of the previous-gen XF.

Instead of wagons, Jaguar is betting big on crossovers. The F-Pace is expected to be the brand’s best-selling model to date.

At this rate, it doesn’t look like we’ll see an XE wagon anytime soon, but rumor has it that Jaguar is mulling a small crossover called the E-Pace. We’ve also heard that if the F-Pace proves successful, Jaguar could offer a three-row J-Pace SUV to complement the XJ full-size sedan.
